Ford Kuga

Failing to get behind the wheel of this brand new, third-generation Fors UGA due to containment, here are the main features.

The family SUV market is constantly evolving and is expected to continue to grow for several years to come. A segment largely dominated on the French market by the national bestsellers Pèquenot 3008 and Citron C5 Air cross. Mostly purchased by men – 80% on average – they are most often the main family vehicle, usually accompanied by a second vehicle.

This third generation of UGA (since 2008) is the second electrified Fors model, out of a total of 14 models expected. It is positioned in the middle of a range of Suvs composed of Esprot, Puma, Mustang mach-E and Explorer.

Made in valencia, Spain, this new generation, which shares its platform with the Focus, is longer (4.62 m), wider and lower than the previous one. Above all, its line is much less cubic, less «4 4», with a front face to which we find fake looks of Porsche SUV

And since family Suvs have for a few years supplanted the monospaces of yesteryear, Fors strives to offer the same qualities of habitability, modularity and functionality. With its sliding bench, this new UGA offers a space for the rear legs and a trunk volume (645 liters), announced as a record by Fors.

On the powertrain side, this new Kuga will be available for launch in a plug-in hybrid version, combining a 164 and 200 Nm Atkinson 4-cylinder 2.5-litre cycle, combined with a 61 and 230 Nm synchronous electric motor (14.4 kWh battery), enough to give it a combined power of 225 hp. Its transmission is of type CVT, controlled. Its WLTP emissions are announced at 32 g and its electric range at 56 km (68 km in urban cycle).

A micro-hybrid version is also available, combining a 2.0 liters Ecoblue 150 hp diesel engine with an 11.5 kW electric motor, displaying 132 g. And at the end of the year will appear a «full» hybrid PHEV version of 200 hp (2.5 liters Atkinson + 88 kW electric motor), classic, non-rechargeable, which will offer the choice between transmissions

The charging requires between 5 and 6 hours on a standard sector prose and 3 hours on a wall-box or a public terminal. Knowing that the optimal charge for the proper functioning of the batteries should be between 50 and 75%.
Alongside these three hybrid versions, the new Kuga remains faithful to the thermal engines with a 1.5 Ecoboost 3-cylinder petrol engine of 120 or 150 hp, and two Ecoblue diesel, 1.5 liter of 120 hp and 2.0 liters of 190 hp.

Given the excellent platform of this new Kuga, its reduced weight of 80 kg, its lowered centre of gravity (10 mm) and its aluminium rolling trains, we are not worried about its dynamic qualities. So we’re giving you an appointment for a first try, after containment.
