BMW X3: which to choose? – Launched in France in November 2017, the third generation of X3, designed on a new platform released by the 5 Series, rivals the Audi Q5, Mercedes GLC, Jaguar F-Pace, Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Range Rover Velar or Volvo XC60. While waiting for a hybrid-rechargeable version in 2019 and an electric version planned for 2020, this 4.71-meter SUV already offers seven engines.
It adds the mixed leather / fabric upholstery, the Advanced front seats (manual adjustment of the seat length, better support …), the Full LED projectors, the real-time traffic information and makes the diameter of the wheels of 18 at 19 inches.
In contrast, the 4-cylinder engine « access » 20i of 184 hp appears from 47 800 €. Its benefits are enough to scatter license points everywhere, and its relative sobriety goes hand in hand with a penalty of « only » € 4,673 minimum.
Between these two engines, the 2-liter engine of the 30i version seems to be the best compromise. With 252 hp, 350 Nm and a consumption close to that of the 20i engine, it displays remarkable performances and a pleasant pleasure.
In DieselThe least powerful version 18d, powered by a 4-cylinder 150 hp, can be content with two-
wheel drive and a mechanical gearbox to act as call price (€ 41,900). However, we prefer her declination 20d (test read here), much more expensive (from € 52,000) and a little less sober, but more alert with its 190 hp, with all-wheel drive and a Automatic box.
The X3 can also enjoy 231 hp version 25d (€ 55,550), or 265 hp and 620 Nm with the superb 3.0 six-cylinder declination 30d (€ 58,500). But the rates are up to the benefits …
- An option to choose?
- Rather than an anti-puncture kit, the spare tire galette is among the options, at 300 € (but it reduces the trunk volume of 100 liters). Depending on the finish, the keyless access-start (with the opening of the tailgate) is charged 600 € more.
- The leather (€ 1,400), the head-high display (€ 1,000), the Harman Kardon audio system with 16 speakers (€ 1,100) can also be checked, just like the carriage (€ 1,150) to tow a trailer.
